I am so grateful that God has blessed me to create a multi media outlet called Obnoxious Media. Severing as the parent company that mages and owns Obnoxious, the nationally syndicated column, Obnoxious TV, the one our talk show that appears on television twice a week, and Obnoxious Radio Live, The radio show that is live on air Monday through Friday, and the Obnoxious Blog. Through all of the previous mentioned forms of media my voice is heard by more than a million people daily. This is something that I do not take lightly and so grateful and humbled that something I created has grown to this great level in a fast period of time.
One of the reasons Obnoxious Media has been successful and grown so fast is due to our sharing this great platform with our fans and followers at various times when lead to do so. I have redefined the word Obnoxious to mean the following:
Ob·nox·ious adj. An in-your-face, thought-provoking expression that is undeniable; a person, object, or topic so objectionably hot that it must be called out or examined through popular eyes; a captivating description that always verifies the true essence of style, class, and intelligence.
This brings me to the very touching message from and Obnoxious Fan by the name Bernice Wedd-Bates. In no watt is this meant to launch an attack or vicious in any way, but we would like to make leaders aware that your words have power and you must think about the things you say at your local church no matter how large a small. Please read her touching message sent to me below:
Hello Facebook Family,
I have made a decision to post this status note on my FB timeline. I listen weekly to Bishop George G. Bloomer. I was offended on more than one occasion by his repeated use of the word “Retarded.” He used this terminology to describe members in his congregation during his message.
I further explained in my post that many people have “mentally retarded” children, sisters and brothers. I told him that context in which he used the word was inappropriate. I also advised him that I would have thought someone in his congregation or “circle” would have confronted him with the same issue.
I referred him to an article in the Washington Post (see below) which supports his inappropriate use of the word. To my dismay, my post was deleted within minutes. I posted another comment asking the
person who deleted my message, give me a call. That post was also deleted within minutes. Family what are your thoughts on this?
Bernice Webb Bates Thanks Willilams – I appreciate greatly. Please let them know this too: I tried not to make it personal – my sister Cynthia was a special needs child that God brought back from the brink if death at 10 months. The enemy attack aher little body with Encephalitis, the mumps & measles. She was blind and unconscious for months. Doctors told my parents that she would not live. In 1957 long before Facebook and other social media – there was a network of prayer that went throughout the U.S. interceding for my sister. Back then the stigma that was attached to having a mentally retarded(using old school terminology), was ridicule one we as children faced daily. America has come a long way with how we deal with this issue – WHY GO BACK BISHOP GEORGE BLOOMER!!!!!
What are your thoughts?
